'La noche blanca del flamenco'

WOW! Those were three pretty cool days spent in Córdoba, it was a complete contrast from Cádiz since the town is steeped in so much history thanks to its Roman and Muslim heritage. The town has some stunning architecture and monuments, wonderful flower pot-lined backstreets and an impressive river running through the middle. My brother and cousin flew out to meet me which made it all the more enjoyable and we struck gold when we came across a huge poster saying la noche blanca del flamenco (the white night of flamenco) would be held during our stay...

It has to be the highlight of our time there, the performance we watched was held in the main square and was absolutely magical. The whole town came to life around 10pm, everyone headed to various stages that had been set up around the city and different flamenco dancers and groups performed all night through till 4:30am in the morning - including my favourite Spanish singer; Rosalía! If you are planning a trip to Córdoba, make sure it's when the flamenco festival is on!

We spent most of our time wandering around, in and out of the parks filled with vibrant orange trees, along the river, over the Roman bridge and in the quaint side-streets. We stumbled upon the street 'Calleja del Indiano', a little treasure trove of golden painted door frames with different letters of the alphabet and flower-filled window ledges.

We visited a museum on the other side of the river to learn all about the history of the town and also went into the Mesquita which was spectacular.

Running...

The run was great, the route a little wiggly because we were following the winding river and went backwards and forwards over bridges to make up the 10k distance, but, nevertheless, a beautiful course. I was determined to pick up the pace a bit this time and because there were some ups and downs it wasn't easy - Leo said it wasn't quite the 'morning holiday jog he would have liked!' He is just fortunate he isn't going to be with me for the next run in Toledo...an ancient city set on top of a HILL above the plains of Castilla-La Mancha!!!
